Object Description:

Four different styles of bronze door bosses from Ashlar Building, East Room of Lower City of Stymphalos (Peloponnesos). The door bosses were all of the same diameter more or less, mostly lying in pairs on the floor where wooden planks had rotten away. The apparent Hellenistic date of these decorations, along with the resemblance of the wall plaster to the so-called First Pompeian Style, suggests a problem of survival, revival or continuity of both types of decoration into the Roman period from the Hellenistic.
