Project Description:

A brief survey in the field was conducted in 2003 when three days were spent studying the pottery dump outside the cave left by Dawkins and Laistner during their excavation.  It was discovered that the early explorers had recovered more than 17,000 pottery fragments and clay vases from the cave, far more than the published information suggested.  Of these, approximately 4,000 had been brought to the Herakleion Museum while the rest was left in the dump on Mount Ida.
