Object Description:

AO0055- A sheet of bronze folded into a narrow crescent shape decorated with a double cable pattern in repousse, with a nail driven through the folded end, perhaps to hang it up. Appears to be a dedication in the sanctuary. While the shape and decoration suggest the decorative rim of a hoplite shield, the identification is still not certain. Found along the exterior of west all of the temple in the fountain house area of the Lower City of Stymphalos (Peloponnesos). From Pl. 7 "Fragment of Bronze Shield Rim from Temple" Echos du Monde Classique - Classical Views 40 NS 15 No. 1, 1996 - Williams, H.
