One of the main purposes of the CIG Portal to the Past is to disseminate information concerning the archaeological fieldwork and the results of the projects that have conducted research in Greece under the aegis of the Institute with a permit from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture. To further this goal the Institute has created a vehicle to facilite this broader awareness of this archaeological research, namely the Portal. In doing this the contributors of this material along with the Institute retain the copyright for it. The imagery is watermarked to indicate this copyright.
The information and imagery contained in the Portal is intended for the personal/non-commerical use only of the visitors to it for such things as study notes, university research papers, teaching materials for classes and powerpoint presentations. This usage is covered under a Creative Commons License (see below) which the Board of Directors of the Institute has adopted for the users of the Portal.

It should be noted that if an individual, organization, or company wishes to use one or more images (at a higher resolution and not watermarked) from the Portal for publication in a newspaper article, popular magazine, facebook, blog, website, a thesis/dissertation, a scholarly journal or book or for commerical use they can contact the Institute (firstname.lastname@example.org) to discuss the means of obtaining permission and the conditions for such use.
